    Cindy has been dancing since she was 6 years old.  She took Tap, Ballet, and Jazz classes @ the York School of Dance in Yorktown.  She was a Cheerleader for the York County League from 1966 - 1971.   Then was a Majorette for her Intermediate and High School years.  In 1990, she started modeling for different agencies until she started teaching dance classes in 1992.  She started teaching in different clubs around the area.  She started completing in Country Line Dance in 1993 with winning a lot of awards. In 1994, she started dancing Country Partner as the Pro-Am division (being the beginner).  In 1995, she started dancing in different divisions in the UCWDC events.  Then in 1995, she opened, "Country Bootleggers Dance Studio", which is located in Yorktown, VA, where she manages, and teaches.  She is also a board member of the "Tidewater Swing Club", and also a Staff member of the "Atlantic Seashore" a UCWDC event.  She has always loved dancing and it shows when she is dancing and teaching. 

 

Instructors

   

   Steve Kirvan = Ballroom Instructor

          Steve started teaching for Fred Astaire Dance Studios (FADS) in Durham, NC at the age of 17. After completing a six week training class, Steve has never looked back and has now been teaching ballroom dancing for 12 years. Steve competed professionally with FADS for 7 years in both the Rhythm and Smooth Styles; placing within the top 6 to 10 in the Southeastern region and receiving several Top Teacher Awards. Steve moved to Virginia in 2001 to teach for FADS of Virginia Beach and decided to take a break from dancing at the end of 2002.  But, in October 2004, Steve decided it was time to go back to his passion and started teaching full time again.  Currently, Steve is an independent instructor and enjoys teaching people how to have fun dancing while bringing ballroom dancing to the Hampton Roads area. Steve is certified at the Silver Level and a member of the National Dance Council of America (NDCA).    

 

     Linus Ellis = Country & Ballroom Instructor

    

       Linus, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, has been involved in the performing arts for most of his life. He brings a unique mix of talents to his work at The Ellis Studio.

Linus is a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City and has been a music instructor in schools as well as a Professor of Music in college. He has been a concert performer for more than 40 years and has played over 300 keyboard concerts in the United States and Europe. He has served as Director of Music for various churches in the Eastern United States and is currently Associate in Ministry at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond, Virginia where he serves as Organist and Director of Music .

Linus began Ballroom dancing as a child. He has won 16 first place awards in sanctioned dance competitions, including the 1996 CWLDA Golden Male International Grand Championship. He teaches dance privately and for various local national and international organizations. He has coached winners in five different dance sanctions. He has served as a dance judge for events in various sanctions.
 

    Dawn Phillips =  Ballroom  Instructor

                 

Dawn began dancing in the spring of 2003 and was immediately hooked.  She has been trained in the International style and, together with her partner, Bill, loves to do exhibitions and will pretty much dance any time there is music playing.
      Dawn started teaching for fun and truly enjoys working with her students.  She has taught both International and American Standard and Latin and also social dancing.

               Darla & Chelsea Hornberger - Shag 

        

    Chelsea is a Junior at Menchville High school.  She is in Band, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Swimming and is a Shag Dance competitor.  She has been dancing for 5 years

  Darla has been dancing for over 12 years, starting out in country line dancing, moving to  east and west coast swing then settling in Shag.

   They enjoy taking trips to North Myrtle Beach for dancing events and to earn new steps.

     Middle Eastern Belly Dancing (Traditional Belly Dancing)

         Brihana                                              Neferteri
               

       Neferteri and Brihana have both been performing Middle Eastern Dance
professionally for over 20 years throughout the Tidewater area.  They are also members of the Middle East Dance Company (MEDC) and Wicked Hips Tribal (WHT).  Although their specialty is cabaret nightclub style (aka Middle Eastern Belly Dancing), they have studied and performed Tribal style and many other folkloric styles from Egypt, Morocco, Persia, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Turkey as well.
 
Over the years, they have performed at numerous Hampton Roads restaurants.  Currently, they are performing regularly at Sacred Grounds in Williamsburg and other various venues.  They have performed at numerous private parties (e.g., birthday, retirement, special occasions), multicultural and diversity type celebrations, retirement and assisted living facilities, local carnivals, and educational and charitable events.
 
Their goal is to share their experience and knowledge with those who are interested in learning more about Middle Eastern Dance.
                 

       Kathy Rogers (Kat) = Int. Line Dance Instructor

         Robin Fary = Yoga Instructor

          

     Robin is a registered Yoga instructor (RYT-200) with the Yoga Alliance and is also a qualified Pilates teacher. She is offering 2 Yoga classes this summer.  For the beginner, Robin has designed a 1-hour  gentle style Hatha yoga routine which will include warm up, standing postures, floor work and a traditional relaxation technique (savasana) to finish your session. You will feel relaxed and ready to conquer the rest of your day. For those of you in need of a more intense workout, she has designed a Vinyasa flow routine. This routine is designed for the yoga student who enjoys flowing from one  traditional posture to the next while connecting the movement with your breath. You will feel energized and empowered. Robin is happily married and the proud mother of 2 wonderful boys. She grew up in Newport News and has enjoyed living here in the county for the last 15 years. She’s always been a fan of fitness and through the years has tried many different kinds. Yoga found her several years ago and she’s been hooked ever since. In addition to being registered with the Yoga alliance as an RYT, Robin is a qualified Pilates instructor and has a Business Management degree. She greatly enjoys the many benefits Yoga has to offer and loves being able to teach others.
